Hand-drawn
plat of the town of Little Washington. George Washington noted
in his 1749 journal, "in the Blue Ridge Mountains . . . I
laid off a town ." He was assisted by two chainmen and laid
out the town of Washington in the same five-block by two-block
grid that exists today. Visit the official web site of the town
